Zsolt Homonnay

Zsolt Homonnay

actor, singer

"Zsolt Homonnay was a classic bon vivant in the role of Mister X. Although his voice fills the theatre and he has quite a presence, he doesn’t take himself too seriously."

VÁRKONYI - BRAUNKE - ÁCS: DORIAN GRAY

Budapest Operetta & Musical Theatre, 2018
"Zsolt Homonnay, who brings life to Lord Henry, is worth noting not only because of his work and humility, or his ability to leave behind his opera bon viveur and high-stage gestures, or his work in the background throughout the performance, but rather because his acting awakens us to the fact that Dorian Gray is actually a little twist on a Faust story..."

STEIN-BOCK: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

Budapest Operetta Theatre, 2021
"Homonnay Zsolt is cast as Tevye in the version I saw, whose characterisation is a refreshing departure from the bear-like Tevyes of old, although this is not an entirely novel way to think about the part, as we have seen such experiments in some other productions. The surprising casting choice paid off. Homonnay’s milkman is a bit more confident, I could say, sharper than usual. He isn’t always the kindly father-figure the way we are used to seeing Tevye, but a rougher character who has been through the wringer many times. However, the tough exterior hides a sensitive soul, bringing out the lyrical softness of the scenes. For example, the number “Do you love me?” is exactly as emotional is it needs to be, and proves Homonnay’s sense of proportion by not sliding into sentimentality, by performing the delicate balancing act this scene requires."

Lévay - Kunze: Rebecca

Budapest Operetta & Musical Theatre, 2012
"Zsolt Homonnay’s lyric voice matches well with the modest and sentimental, but also austere figure of Maxim described in the novel on which the musical is based. Moreover, Homonnay found the gold standard of the interpretation thus his performance was really convincing"

LEHÁR: THE LAND OF SMILES

Budapest Operetta Theatre, 2021
"On October 23rd, Zsolt Homonnay played the part of Prince Sou-Chong. He had ample opportunities to perfect the character of the romantic hero, and by now has become a master of the type. He brings the prince-in-love to life with exactly as much pathos, not more, and not less, than the genre requires.” …. “The part requires a virtuoso singer, but for an artist with great musical sensitivity it is a treat to play. Homonnay hits the high notes with unwavering strength, and blows the audience away with a seemingly unlimited lung capacity on the sustained notes. He strings the individual notes together with feeling and sensitivity to form the softer sections."

Kálmán: The Circus Princess

Budapest Operetta & Musical Theatre, 2014
"Zsolt Homonnay was a classic bon vivant in the role of Mister X. Although his voice fills the theatre and he has quite a presence, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, particularly in joint scenes with David Szabo (Tony Schlumberger)."

Kodály: Háry János

Szeged Open Air Festival, 2014
"Zsolt Homonnay as Háry is no surprise as he makes an endearing hussar. Moving lightly and quickly across the huge stage and its platforms: there is no other actor who could take such possession of the space."
— Kortárs Online (Tünde Tóth)

BELLA - KARAFIÁTH: THE CAT DEMON

Budapest Operetta & Musical Theatre, 2018
"....One could watch the wonderfully histrionic acting of Zsolt Homonnay in the title role for infinity. There is no trace of the big stage bon viveur, here it’s a baby doll dressed in women’s clothes, a rascal singing “beautiful echo vocals” thrust upon it, and if necessary, affected whimpering and cooing that changes its shape with amazing energy."
